Employment May Be On the Rise
Posted: November 11, 2009
In a quarterly survey completed at the end of October, responses show that the percentage of companies looking to hire (within the next six months) is actually higher than companies looking to cut staff. Additionally, 44% of companies surveyed reported an increase in customer demand, making it the first time that an demand has outshadowed a decline since July of 2008.
The survey itself was issued to economists at almost 80 firms by the National Association for Business Economics.
Here are some other figures found within the survey:
* 24% of companies plan on increasing their number of employees, while 57% plan on keeping, but not increasing the staff they currently have
* Companies with increasing profits outnumbered companies with dropping profits last quarter for the first time in almost two years
* Industries that are looking for help the most - service industries. Over 30% of service companies will be adding workers within the next six months
The unemployment status in Southwest Florida is still somewhat grim, with economists not expecting the unemployment levels to peak until sometime next year. Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and Cape Coral are some of the hardest hit areas in terms of jobs - hopefully, the market will recover sooner than later.
