Swimming Pool Safety

Posted: January 14, 2010

Swimming pools are typically thought of as a way to cool off in the hot Florida summer, but few think about the safety concerns owning a pool can bring. In this age of foreclosures and vacant homes in the Naples, Bonita Springs, and Fort Myers real estate markets, the number of vacant properties with pools is rising, and posing a safety threat to children who gain unauthorized access. Many pools in these circumstances are left unattended and uncovered, making the possibility of accidental drownings increase significantly. In homes where pools are not operational, homeowners should take the extra precautions to fence or cover the area.

The other aspect to vacant homes with pools is that a lack of maintenance can strongly discourage a potential buyer. Operational pools that show care and upkeep indicate that the homeowner has an interest in keeping up the remainder of the home as well. Pool water that is not able to circulate or turn over can have a bright green appearance, and put buyers on the lookout for other issues. Also, keeping a pool working in and in good order can help to raise the property value of the home.
